Site Code of Conduct
Professional behavior at a clinical site is expected. Reports of unprofessional behavior by a school may result in the teacher candidate being withdrawn from that placement and a Disposition Concern being submitted. It may also result in a teacher candidate being withdrawn from their major program.
-
Professional Behavior
- Be on time or early: 30 minutes before your first school visit.
- Be prepared: know where you are going and what to do when you get there.
- Check-in at the main office.
- Present yourself as if you were interviewing for a job – you might be!
- WEAR your ID at all times. You will not be allowed in the school without it, and the school will not provide a lanyard.
- Clinical student dress should be in accordance with school policy and expectations for teachers.
-
Unprofessional Behavior
- Not meeting all site requirements for visitors before starting your first day. This may include site-approved criminal background check and district paperwork.
- Wearing clothing items that contain logos or your name.
- Showing up at any site that you have not previously signed up for.
- Failure to attend an interview, clinical experience, or student teaching.
- Failure to comply with any of a district's requirements in a timely manner.
Initial Observation of Unprofessional Behavior
If a teacher candidate exhibits a dispositional concern, the following steps will be taken to address the candidate's unprofessional behavior. The faculty member or other personnel:
- Discusses with the teacher candidate the reason(s) why the observed behavior is unprofessional.
- Writes a disposition concern or notifies the teacher candidate that if his or her unprofessional behavior is not satisfactorily addressed, a disposition will be written.
- Sends a follow-up email to the teacher candidate to ensure written documentation of the conversation.
