Apply in the fall of your junior year. A resume draft is required. For transfer students, check with your advisor.

Resume Requirements for Student Teaching Application

  • Include your student teaching semester and only information related to student teaching
  • Keep the template’s layout and font
  • 1-2 pages
  • Save as PDF with the proper file name: LastName_FirstName_Resume (Example: Redbird_Reggie_Resume.pdf)

Step 2: Submit Materials

The year before you start student teaching, you’ll receive an email from TeacherEdCenter to submit an unofficial transcript and updated student teaching resume.

Traditional Fall student teachers will receive an email with instructions for uploading your unofficial ISU transcript and updated resume after Fall '25 grades are posted.

Traditional Spring student teachers will receive an email with instructions for uploading your unofficial ISU transcript and updated resume after Spring '26 grades are posted.

Transfer students transfer transcripts may be needed at a future date. An unofficial PDF transcript is acceptable.

PDS students should have their unofficial ISU transcript and resume ready to upload when they apply. Secondary PDS students will need transfer transcripts ready to upload when they apply.

Step 3: Prepare to Teach

The semester before you start student teaching, make sure you prepare and have everything you need.

Check your email

All information related to student teaching will be sent to your Illinois State email.

Get insurance coverage

Make sure you have adequate health and accident coverage.

Learn more about insurance

Update your contact information

You can make changes to your contact information in My.IllinoisState.edu. If you update your information, send us an email and let us know.

Meet with regional coordinators

You’ll meet with the coordinators to discuss the placement process.

Review standards and policies

Take time to learn and understand various guidelines for student teaching.
